It was inspirational to see our community rally around several events lately. As an example, in just one recent Friday evening, our baseball team won a crucial game to make it to the playoffs, our choir volunteered at the Community Center's monthly bingo night to earn funding for new risers, and John Wetten Elementary's Carnival event was an astounding success, all thanks to Gladstone school staff's extraordinary efforts in keeping these meaningful community gatherings on our calendars.
All of these events are also examples of Gladstone Shows Up, our attendance campaign that encourages families to make an extra effort to come to school and our community events, even if they might be having trouble making it out of their homes for any number of reasons (or struggles for our families who lack homes). Our district’s efforts helping students and families overcome barriers was recognized by The Oregonian. KGW chose to follow-up with its own article that emphasized how this is a district-wide initiative with participation from all school staff and many citizens.
Thank you, Gladstone School District staff members, for tireless efforts toward making Gladstone a place where students want to come to school every day.
