Gladstone High School senior Sabrina Stewart has committed to attending Simpson University, which has offered her an athletic scholarship to join its wrestling program.
Stewart will join Simpson's Red Hawks with an impressive track record of wins for the GHS Gladiators. Earlier this school year she placed fifth in the Tri-Valley Conference and went on to place eighth in the state.
"Simpson has a really good wrestling team, so I'm excited to go there," she said.
Stewart thanked GHS's new wrestling coach Austin Abbey for bringing a background in mixed martial arts and teaching the team different technical skills.
"I'm so glad that Coach Abbey will be continuing to lead the Gladiators' wrestling program for the foreseeable future, because he's such a big motivator for student-athletes," Stewart said.
Stewart recently visited the university's campus in Redding, California, and found a beautiful area with tons of recreational opportunities much like Gladstone. She plans to earn a bachelor's degree in business/sports management from the university.
