Gladstone High School science teacher Michaela Freeby and GHS head secretary Stefanie Bell led a group of 30 Marine Biology students to go tidepooling.
During the all-day field trip on May 23, students participated in a garbage cleanup in Seaside, Oregon. They then met with members of the Haystack Rock Awareness Program, a nonprofit organization that leads tours of intertidal and bird ecology through the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
Students had the opportunity to view hermit crabs, tidepool sculpin, ochre sea stars, marine birds and more in their natural habitats. Students did a wonderful job being stewards of the environment on the Oregon Coast and getting to experience, in real life, the marine organisms they have learned about in class.
